How do you apply lipliner and how do you know what color to use?

I've heard that you should not pick a color based on your lipstick but rather, the color of your lips which I never knew! I rarely use lipliner 'cause my lipstick tends to come off and then I'm stuck with just lined lips. Plus, I can't line my lips well. Are you supposed to blend the liner into your lips before applying the lipstick? I never really worried about all this but since I've turned 30, my lipstick goes on differently and my lips seem to have less definition. Oh, what's a good drug-store brand to try and how much does it cost? I generally only use Lancome or Estee Lauder but I don't want to pay a lot incase it doesn't look good. Thanks. How do you apply lipliner and how do you know what color to use?
I don't use it much either, but, like you, sometimes I need more definition. I mostly wear natural toned lipsticks, so my one lipliner is the color of my lips, but a shade or two darker. I use one by Wet n Wild, the infamous #666 (also called Brandywine). $.99! It's a staple, IMO. Lip liner is one of those products that's hard to screw up, so just about any brand should work for you, even the cheap drugstore brands. I would take a good look at the color of my lips and get something similar. This way, when the lipstick wears off, and you know it will, there won't be that obvious line. Hate that! Definitely don't do what some women do and wear dark liner filled in with light lipstick! I just feather it on the lipline with short strokes, or sometimes I apply it after my lipcolor to even it out and define it. You don't want a harsh line. Some women even fill in their entire lips with it to help hold the lipcolor. Of course, they also sell clear liner, to help hold the lipstick in your lipline and prevent bleeding. That might work for you too. Like anything else, you have to experiment. How do you apply lipliner and how do you know what color to use?
Always choose a lip liner one shade darker than your lipstick color shade.Lip liner will help you to prevent the spread of your lipstick outside from your lips as well as it will help you to get a prominent lip.For longer staying you can use the 'stay long lipsticks'.Always put the lip liner after applying lipstick.
I tried every way until I read that a model trick was to fill in your full lip with lip liner. I started outlining my lips then coloring in with the lip liner first thing in the morning then top with lipstick. The only exception is use of chap stick or lip base if needed (first)

Once topped with lipstick my lip color has stayed on for 3 to 4 hours! Also, I started out just safe and neutral to pale

When I started wearing stronger colors in clothing I wear more color in the lipcolor to balance and not look washed out.

You don't want lipliner to be all you see like an outline of your mouth. Lipliner does help hold lipcolor in place

Lipliner can also be used to modify the shape of your mouth

For example if you have a thin lip(s) you can to the outer edge a bit Experiment!
but eyeliner that hase a thin but sturdy tip at the end and when applying you can try to be perfect and get that perfect thin line ontop of your lid or you can do a thick one or let it sit for a while then get a q-tip and whipe as much neededoff to get that perfect thin or thick line you want!
I've never used lip liner regularly and I think its a waste of time and money, when you do wear it...who notices it anyway? And like you say, the lipstick will wear off and you are stuck with lined lips, and if you go outside the lines....then you have hard to get off colour on your face.

Ways to get lipstick to stay however... I heard that if you put a bit of foundation or concealer on your lips that your lipstick will last longer, but the colour will change a little. And never top off your lipstick with gloss because that makes the lipstick come off easier.

Why dont you try those lip-stain tubes, or those long-lasting lipsticks. As for the lip-stain, its like glue or something it really stays on a long time. just be careful when applying.
